A couple months ago, HP sent me some new photo books to try out along with a portable photo printer. As is usual with my hectic schedule, I just recently got around to trying it out and am I sorry I waited! I really could have used the photo books to create holiday gifts for my mom and grandparents, but still plan to use them for other projects and maybe birthday presents.
My 13-year-old daughter actually went to town last weekend playing with the HP Photosmart A626 printer. She created a whole photo album just for herself by adding captions and clip art right to the photos through the printer’s touch screen. Her only complaint was that she could not save the edits that she made, but once she got the hang of it she created some pretty cute memories.
As for me, you have to know: I am not into scrap booking. I tried it when my kids were young and have several pages done the old, traditional way but haven’t picked it back up in almost 10 years. I just have trouble finding the time and patience to do it. Plus, so many of my photos are digital that I have to first print them out, then cut them up and arrange them. It just felt unnatural.
The nice part of the digital photo books is that you can arrange them and print them on your computer, which works out great for those of you who are like me and don’t like to do something twice. I’ve used online services for this before but felt constrained by 1) having to upload all my photos to their website and 2) being provided a very limited set of templates. These new photo books take all of that away. They come with software to help you lay it out (or you can use any program you have!) and then you just print it on your color printer. It is very simple with great results.

I’m into digital scrapbooking in a big way. My wife used to do the manual one and hers were brilliant but mine are just for images so I don’t need to use buttons or ribbons or anything like that. Just a waste of time for me, I much prefer using technology.

This is a really nice photo printer. I bought one for my son last week and he really loved it. He loves taking pictures on just about everything everyday.
i prefer using SLR cameras and buying a proper industrial printer. yess, i am a technology geek and it shows in my house which helps the printer fit in with its surroundings (:

This printer sounds very useful. I have also tried scrapbooking but it is such a hassle! It is great that we now have a better way of scrapbooking, as it can really be a pleasure to keep memories so conveniently. Thanks for this interesting post, keep up the good work.

Sounds really cool. It seems kind of like one of those kiosks that they have in drug stores for printing out pictures but in your home. I used one a few years back to make X-mas cards. it was convienent but expensive
I had a dream to begin my business, however I did not earn enough amount of money to do it. Thank goodness my close mate advised to use the home loans. Therefore I took the sba loan and made real my dream.
It is a good printer for sure.

That looks more like an Alien than a printer! It is always worth finding out how much it will cost to replace the ink cartridges (consumables) in printers. I’ve found some printers that are cheaper to replace than re-fill with ink. It is consumerism gone mad!

As a photographer there are lots of different routes you could decide to explore, however there is one thing that all photographs rely heavily on, the use of light. Get this basic point wrong and its just not going to work.

That has to be one of the coolest portable photo printers that i have seen in a long time. I like how the screen is so big on the printing unit. The screen on mine is only about 2″
I love to see beautiful places and i again plan to spend my winter holidays so i will buy this photo printer as soon as possible and suggest my all friend to have a look of that. thanks for sharing
